VITAMIN K

Vitamin K (the name is derived from the German word koagulieren - to coagulate) is necessary for the blood clotting mechanism in the body. It thus aids in the healing of capillaries or blood vessels that may have enlarged or burst, creating the thin red lines that can often show through the skin.

Vitamin K helps to reduce dark circles around the eyes and also aids in the fading of hyperpigmentation.

As rosacea specialist Dr. Geoffrey Nase has said: "Vitamin K has been the plastic surgeons' magical secret weapon for post-surgery bruising (damaged blood vessels). It has been shown to strengthen blood vessels (arterioles, capillaries and venules) in scientific studies. Small concentrations of Vitamin K added to your daily routine may have a very positive effect on undereye bags (swelling), undereye bluish color (dilated venules returning de-oxygenated blood) and red dilated arterioles that have not been structurally damaged."

WILLOWHERB EXTRACT

Willowherb Extract is one of the major ingredients in Rosacea Care Serum, Moisturizer, Facial Gel, Soothing Spray and Sunscreen. It has outstanding anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and is very soothing on the skin. In addition to reducing redness, Willowherb has long been thought to be helpful in healing wounds and reducing the pain associated with burns.

Willowherb (Epilobium angustifolium) is a wildflower native to the forests of the Yukon Territory in Canada as well as northern Europe and Russia. Whenever a forest has been ravished by fire, the small green shoots of the Willowherb sprout among the blackened tree skeletons almost before the ashes are cold. It then protects the seedling trees that are fighting to renew their growth.

In the same way that it mutes the scars of a forest fire, Willowherb juices have been used medicinally by natives over the centuries to soothe burns to the skin and reduce inflammation. Based on this strong ethnobotanical history, modern extracts have been developed and tested in-vivo and found to be very effective against both chemical and UV-induced erythema while maintaining anti-irritancy and anti-microbial functions. It has recently been discovered to be a potent anti-oxidant as well.

We think that the proven ability of Willowherb Extract to reduce redness and calm the skin can play a substantial role in the on-going efforts to mitigate the problems of rosacea, and we will continue to work to find ways to develop it further.

STRONTIUM

Rosacea Care Calming Lotion and Soothing Spray contain COSMEDERM-7™, a strontium compound developed by Dr. Gary Hahn, one of America’s foremost skin care researchers and a clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego.

COSMEDERM-7™ is the first compound that selectively blocks the irritation-producing nerve endings (type C nociceptors) that become activated when itching, burning and stinging occur from any cause. It is highly selective in its activity and is extremely safe. (Strontium, in fact, is a natural element found in many of the foods we eat, especially green, leafy vegetables. It is the eighth most abundant element in seawater.)

Dr. Geoffrey Nase, generally considered the leading researcher on the vascular components of rosacea and author of the definitive new book called Beating Rosacea, has said this about the incorporation of strontium into skin care products:

“Recent clinical studies demonstrate that when strontium nitrate is applied to the facial skin, it significantly reduces skincare-induced burning, stinging and facial redness. These findings are very important to rosacea sufferers who report facial burning and flushing to topical skincare products and environmental insults such as wind, sun, heat and cold.”

For many users, this inhibitory action will take place within seconds, and the effects will be long-lasting. For others, especially moderate to severe rosacea sufferers with chronic or intense facial burning, the build-up of effectiveness will be experienced over a longer period of time but with significant results.

Rosacea Care is the first company to offer to the international world of rosacea the extraordinary benefits of ZinClear, the most advanced form of Zinc Oxide and the primary ingredient in our new Sunscreen "30". Developed by research scientists in Western Australia, ZinClear offers remarkable protection against the ultraviolet rays of the sun, and in conjunction with the other ingredients in Sunscreen "30" provides a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30, the recommended level of protection for people with rosacea or sensitive skin.

The sun which gives life to our planet can be very harmful to the skin. A recent publication of the Harvard Medical School had this to say about the anatomy of sunlight:

"Sunlight contains energy; it warms the world and makes plants grow, but it also damages the skin. The sun's energy is carried in three wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation. The shortest wavelengths, ultraviolet C (UVC), are absorbed by the earth's atmosphere long before they can reach the skin. The intermediate rays of ultraviolet B (UVB) carry the energy that is most damaging to the skin. Although the long rays of ultraviolet A (UVA) pack 1000 times less punch, they penetrate more deeply."

All Rosacea Care products are designed to be Non-Comedogenic and Chirally Correct. Both circumstances are highly important to rosacea patients or anyone with sensitive skin.

NON-COMEDOGENIC

Comedogenic (pronounced coh-me-dough-jen-ic) refers to anything that tends to clog pores and produce comedones, commonly called blackheads. A product that is Non-Comedogenic, like Rosacea Care, is one that will not clog pores. Rosacea patients are regularly advised to seek out products that are specifically known to be Non-Comedogenic.

CHIRALLY CORRECT

The word Chiral (pronounced ki-rul) derives from the Greek word kheir, meaning hand. Most important biomolecules, including those used in skin care, have a left and a right chemical orientation.

And just as we must put our hands in the correct gloves for a proper fit, so we must put the properly-oriented molecules into our skin's receptors to get effective treatment.

As you read the ingredients on our labels, you will see that a number of them are preceded by a D or an L. The D stands for Dextrorotatory, molecules that rotate to the right , while the L stands for Levorotatory, molecules that have a rotation to the left. While the chemical composition of mirror-imaged molecules may be the same, it is only by choosing the chirally-correct orientation that the skin cells receive the molecular purity that leads to healthy results and more beautiful skin.
